Skirt!

I whipped up a cream skirt today. I love it. :D The ruffle starts just above the knee and is about 9 1/2 inches, for perspective. I don't have a photo of it on me yet.

Wool Comb thingy, Mohair Bear hat, and stuff

I have been interested in the fiber prep side of spinning as well, but was not going to invest a lot into that. But when my fiber loving friend (http://www.neauveau.com/) gave me bits of her fleeces to try out to see if I like it, an idea rolling around in my head became more useful sounding. I don't know if you would call this a flicker, comb, carder, or what, but last night B made for me this:

It used to be the wood part of a worn out bellows, but a little drilling and nailing later (thanks to my DH), it is a fiber tool! B will make the second one for me soon. free bellows + $3 in nails = 2 tools. Awesome. I tested it out last night on the fleece, and despite my lame first-time fleece washing that left the wool a teensy bit felted, it helped fluff it up a LOT! :D :D :D

Other projects of note:
Teddy Heddy - mohair I spun on my Ashford spindle and crocheted into a teddy bear hat for a baby girl due in July.

Sonnet sweater, pattern by Kristi Porter found at http://www.knitty.com/, going to be sleeveless for summer if I finish it in time! Ahhh, I love how this is turning out! The yarn is just some Bernat Satin I got on clearance at Michaels, but it doesn't look cheap in this sweater. :)

Fathers' Day at Black Sheep Gathering

sheep 096adj, originally uploaded by Ashley Martineau.

We had a great time at BSG after worship! I felt bad we went to a me-thing on Fathers' Day, but we planned it before I knew and it was the only day we could go. I liked seeing everything (though we ran out of time to see the alpacas and stuff), B and J enjoyed the sheep. I am thinking a county fair is in our future, since J loves animals so much. :) There were some really cool breeds there, like Jacob sheep that have 2 or even 4 horns! I had some frugal fun. I got 4 oz of undyed merino roving for $4, 4.5 oz of brown mohair locks for $5.69, a spindle for $7.50, a plummy naturally dyed wool/alpaca blend yarn that should be enough for a pair of socks for under $7, and two sets of double-point needles for what you would expect to pay for them. I missed out on the T-shirts because I didn't realize where they were until the end and then didn't realize it was my last chance. So I have no t-shirt from my first fiber festival. :( Maybe at OFFF, or I could just get a cute Ravelry one instead. :) My friend who we went with, Ashley, shared a little of her fleeces with me so I could practice working with wool at that stage. ( :D thank you! ) I had fun. :)

Bye to Felix the Cat

Felix was our cat. He died in the night from wounds from an unknown attacker, probably a raccoon considering the extent. My feelings are a bit conflicted, as he was really miserable from the injuries, but it is always sad to have your pet die. Jonathan loved the kitty, so after a break from pet ownership, I think I'd like another cat in our lives. Felix was a well-lived cat, having lived many places and enjoyed a life of ease with owners who loved him. Thanks for eating my hair and being distractingly loving to our guests during bible studies at the house. :) Bye, Felix. :(

Been a while...

I am back, I think. I got busy with my crazy little boy who is learning how to get into everything, with chores, and with crafts. And I still have a social life after all that, I think. :)

I finished a teal soaker for my son

and my garden is growing. Hubby finally solved my watering problem, and I now water with a hose and not tons of pitcher refills and trips back and forth. :) Yay!

I am spinning yarns still, and crafting as usual. Right now my w-i-p is a froggy hat for Jonathan for this fall. I am almost done with the beanie part, and the eyes will be next.

Soon I will do a real picture update, but right now I need to go make sure J isn't getting into something...
